Melanie Martinez has shared an emotional Instagram Story tribute after the death of her ex Oliver Tree, remembering the musician as a “true artist” with a “soft heart” and reflecting on the “formative” time they once shared.
In her message on her Instagram story, Martinez wrote: “Been an absolute wreck today,” before adding: “It’s really hard to understand how someone who you once shared such a specific and formative time of your life with can all of a sudden be gone.”
She continued: “He had such a soft heart and was a true artist in every way.”
Martinez, who is bisexual and uses she/they pronouns, ended her tribute by writing: “Rest in peace Oliver. I know you’re making the angels giggle. I’ll be here wondering what stunt and creative project you’re scheming up in heaven. All my love.”
Tree, 32, died in a helicopter crash on Sunday (14 June). It was reported that he was one of six people who died when two helicopters crashed over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
