Joe Locke and Kit Connor on Heartstopper Forever’s ‘beautiful’ intimacy scenes

Joe Locke has said the intimate scenes in Heartstopper Forever “feels beautiful”, as he and Kit Connor prepare to say goodbye to the Netflix franchise.

Heartstopper fans will bid farewell to the queer romance series this Friday, 17 July, when the finale movie debuts on Netflix. It coincides with author Alice Oseman’s last instalment of the Heartstopper graphic novel, which was released on 2 July.

The feature-length film will see characters Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) deal with the reality of a long-distance relationship, as Nick heads off to university.

It’s been confirmed that there will be intimate scenes in Heartstopper Forever, which is a natural progression for the young love story.

Speaking to PinkNews, actor Joe Locke, who alongside Kit Connor became Executive Producers for the film, spoke about what fans can expect.

He told us: “These definitely are a step further than previous intimacy scenes in season three, but they feel beautiful. When we were shooting them, it felt very safe.”

Connor told us: “As an actor who is going to partake in an intimate scene, you should always have that sort of autonomy and level of security and safety. If you don’t, then something’s gone wrong.

“I think that even if we weren’t exec producers, because we had an amazing intimacy coordinator and an amazing production team in general, and creative team, that we would have felt safe and comfortable.”

Locke added: “The intimate scenes in Heartstopper have always felt necessary and tasteful. I think that’s what is the most important part of doing any intimacy scene.”

While fans will be excited to see how Nick and Charlie’s story ends, they will also see a fresh face.

It was previously confirmed that Olivia Colman would not be returning as Nick’s mum. Instead, she was replaced by Motherland icon Anna Maxwell Martin.

Heartstopper Forever is out on Netflix on 17 July.
