Netflix has finally confirmed the release date for the upcoming Heartstopper movie, Heartstopper Forever.
The film is set to bring the beloved LGBT young adult series to a close, after three seasons. The show debuted on 22 April 2022, and creator Alice Oseman said they hoped it would run for three seasons, to fully cover the storyline of her graphic novels on which it is based.
However in April 2025, it was revealed that the fourth season would instead become a feature-length film instead.
Netflix confirmed on 22 April that Heartstopper Forever will be released on 17 July.
Kit Connor and Joe Locke are set to reprise their roles as Nick and Charlie, respectively. The duo are also executive producers on the movie.
Other returning cast include Yasmin Finney as Elle and William Gao as Tao.
However it was confirmed that Olivia Colman would not be returning as Nick’s mum. Instead, Motherland icon Anna Maxwell Martin will take on the role.
What is Heartstopper Forever about?
Heartstopper Forever will pick up where season three left off and the challenges they will face that come with growing up.
Nick is heading to university, which will mean he and Charlie will have to deal with being in a long-distance relationship for the first time.
Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum: “For a teenage relationship, this is a pretty huge hurdle to overcome. Each of them has some conflicting feelings about this development. Nick isn’t sure who he is without Charlie, and Charlie is nervous about being left behind. They have some work to do — both on their relationship and individually.
“Heartstopper’s other protagonists are facing similar conundrums about their futures. Because it’s not just the relationships that are being pulled in different directions, but the friendships too. I don’t want to tease too much more yet.”
