Wentworth spin-off finally confirmed with queer favourites to return

Wentworth is officially returning, with a spin-off featuring some of the show’s most beloved characters confirmed to be in the works.
The show was based around a women’s prison in Australia, following the lives of inmates and prison staff. The show, which aired on Channel 5 and 5Star in the UK, featured countless queer storylines, including same-sex romance, a transgender female inmate dealing with her transition behind bars, and a transmasc inmate being kept from his medication (played by non-binary transmasc actor Zoe Terakes, too!).
The show concluded in October 2021 after an incredible eight seasons, with the prison blowing up. Since, fans have been desperate to find out what happened next to their favourites.
Well, good news, as a spin-off, Wentworth: Halfway Home, has officially been announced and will follow some of the show’s most iconic faces.
As announced by VicScreen last week, the spin-off is set in the same universe as Wentworth, but “takes the story beyond the prison walls and into a new world of redemption and survival”.
Who is back for Wentworth: Halfway Home?
Katrina Milosevic, Nicole da Silva and Kate Box will reprise their roles as Susan “Boomer” Jenkins, Franky Doyle and Lou Kelly, respectively. They will be joined by Alex King and Chenile Chandler, with more to be announced.
The synopsis reads: “Freshly paroled, Boomer arrives at Sal’s Halfway House determined to get custody of her daughter and build a life for the both of them. But when a body turns up, who can she trust in a home full of ex-cons? Getting out of prison was hard, but staying out may prove impossible.”
The last time fans saw Boomer, she was still in prison and pregnant. Lou was also behind bars, while lesbian icon Franky had been released in an earlier season.
Wentworth: Halfway Home is set to air in Australia on Binge in late 2026, though no word yet on where or if it will be available in the UK.
