Ruaridh Mollica hopes his bisexuality ‘comes through’ in VisionQuest role

Marvel’s Tommy Maximoff might not be explicitly queer in VisionQuest, but the actor portraying him hopes his own queerness will still make its way into the character.
Ruaridh Mollica, who plays the adult version of Wanda Maximoff and Vision’s son Tommy, spoke to SFX Magazine for their 9 September issue, ahead of the Marvel series’ premiere on 14 October and addressed whether Tommy’s sexuality will be explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I don’t know if it’s explicitly referenced,” Mollica said. “But I feel like myself as a bisexual actor embodying Tommy, hopefully that comes through in just personality and self and is something that can be explored in the future.”
Some fans reacted negatively in the comments, sharing how they aren’t exactly convinced Tommy is about to become Marvel’s next out bisexual superhero.
“He said baby this is Disney they ain’t addressing s***,” one person wrote on X.
Another fan wrote that it was “safe to assume it won’t be a plot point in the show”, while adding that they wanted to see how Tommy is handled overall before judging.
But others are taking a more optimistic view. One fan pointed out on X that having a bisexual actor bring his own perspective to Tommy could give the character “a lot of authenticity”, while another called Mollica’s casting “already a step in the right direction” and said they hoped to see Tommy date a man.
And considering Tommy is a superhero who has already existed as a bisexual character in Marvel Comics, fans have plenty of reason to be curious about whether the MCU will eventually explore that side of him.
Mollica also offered a little more insight into the character, describing Tommy as “a grifter”, “a small-time thief”, and “a bit of an artful dodger” who has become lost and is searching for purpose before ending up on the road with Vision.
For VisionQuest, much of the plot is still being kept tightly under wraps. The series is set around the same period as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, so exactly how Tommy fits into the wider MCU remains one of Marvel’s many secrets.
