A flirtatious exchange between Johnny Storm and Nova in Queen in Black #4 is being cited as the latest “breadcrumb” for fans who read the Human Torch as bisexual.
In the scene, set during the chaotic war at the heart of Queen in Black, the Fantastic Four battle the symbiote Firelord, with Johnny teaming up with Richard “Rich” Rider, also known as Nova. Before they combine their energy, Johnny takes time to compliment Nova’s cologne, and Nova promises to buy him a bottle.
Nova then tells him, “I need you as hot as it gets,” and Johnny replies, “That’s every day of my life.”

The moment has been treated by some readers as another example of Marvel signalling queerness around one of its most high-profile heroes while keeping everything at the level of subtext. Johnny Storm has long been framed in the comics as a flamboyant playboy and womaniser, with a history of short-lived relationships.
A ScreenRant recap also points to earlier moments that have fuelled bisexual readings for years. It claims Marjorie Liu’s Daken: Dark Wolverine run includes heavy sexual tension between Johnny and Akihiro (Daken). It also references Johnny’s enthusiastic text response to Iceman coming out: “Flame on! Literally!”

Johnny Storm is a core member of the Fantastic Four and the brother of Sue Storm (Invisible Woman). He is typically portrayed as impulsive, charismatic and thrill-seeking. His powers centre on pyrokinesis and flight, commonly activated with the catchphrase “Flame on!”
