Katya Jones has denied mouthing “he’s fit” about Strictly Come Dancing contestant Lawrence Robb, with Ed Balls saying she messaged him to clear things up.
The 37-year-old Strictly professional became the focus of weekend lip-reading speculation after Saturday’s live show, when a balcony cutaway appeared to catch her reacting to Emmerdale actor Robb’s performance.
Robb, 34, had just danced a sultry Paso Doble when the camera landed on Jones and viewers began debating what she said in the moment.
Speaking on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (29 September), Balls said he had been convinced he knew what he’d seen the day before. “I said yesterday it was pretty clear she [Katya] said ‘he’s fit’,” he told viewers.
He then said Jones had been in touch to correct him. “In my heart of hearts I still think that, but she sent me a WhatsApp and it said ‘I said fierce.’”
Balls added: “Katya has always told me the unvarnished truth so it must be true.”
What sparked Strictly ‘fit’-uation?
The clip quickly became a talking point among viewers over the weekend, with social media posts asking whether Jones had mouthed “fit” after Robb’s dance. One viewer wrote online: “Haha Katya mouthing ‘fit’ after Lawrence’s dance.”
The moment also came up on Monday’s Good Morning Britain, when Balls said: “Knowing Katya, I think she probably said fit,” emphasising the word as he spoke. Co-host Susanna Reid replied: “There we go! It’s confirmed!”
To be fair, the actor is pretty fit, so we wouldn’t blame Jones if she had said that.

Balls was partnered with Jones on Strictly in 2016, and their run remains closely associated with their high-energy salsa to Psy’s Gangnam Style.
Jones is a long-running Strictly professional known for high-impact Latin choreography and a strong on-screen persona. She won Strictly in 2017 with actor Joe McFadden, and is partnered this series with YouTuber John Nellis who is currently at the top of the leaderboard.
Robb was named as the 12th celebrity confirmed for the 2026 Strictly line-up in August.
