Pete Davidson has spoken out against online body shaming aimed at his ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, calling the harassment “not cool” and “f***** up”.
In a Variety interview, the US comedian and actor said: “I don’t like it at all. It’s not cool. She’s a really strong person, I’ve witnessed it, and I don’t understand it. She knows how to handle this stuff though. She’s been around. So she’ll be OK, but I think it’s f***** up.”
Davidson and Grande dated for about five months in 2018 and got engaged. Asked where they stand now, he said: “I think Ariana’s f****** cool and immensely talented and an awesome girl. We’re not texting or whatever, but we’re cool.”
Why Ariana Grande has faced renewed scrutiny
Grande has faced a fresh wave of speculation, concern and bullying about her physical appearance after images of the singer and actor went viral in late July.
Renewed attention around her weight and appearance also followed her album Petal and its title track video.

In early August, Grande’s representative said she would “take a step back from visibility … which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny” after the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, which ended on 1 September.
Grande later addressed the decision at a Chicago concert stop on 4 August, saying the break was not “reactive or impulsive” and that she had planned it “a long time ago.”
Her retreat from public life meant her planned appearance in the West End revival of Sunday In The Park With George was also scrapped. Co-star Jonathan Bailey later stepped back from the production to support Grande.
What is Pete Davidson up to?
Davidson is currently promoting a dramatic role in David Leitch’s heist film How to Rob a Bank, set for release in cinemas on 13 November. He reportedly gained 15 pounds of muscle for the part, playing a war veteran who robs banks to support his family.
Davidson rose to fame on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, becoming known for confessional stand-up and high-profile tabloid attention. As well as Grande, he famously dated Kim Kardashian for a while between November 2021 and August 2022.
