Get to know queer Industry star Myha’la as she enters The Celebrity Traitors

The Celebrity Traitors kicked off with a dramatic first episode that introduced the 20 new celebs descending on Ardross Castle, with Myha’la among them.

The 30-year-old American actress, known for her starring role as Harper Stern in Industry, is one of several queer cast members of Celebrity Traitors, alongside Bella Ramsey, Joe Lycett, and Sebastian Croft.

Myha’la Herrold, known mononymously as Myha’la, has also had notable roles in Black Mirror, Bodies Bodies Bodies and Leave the World Behind.

Myha’la has remarked that taking part in Celebrity Traitors was her “dream” after she had been a fan of the show.

“When the announcement came out with the lineup, friends were messaging, ‘You literally said you wanted to be on this show. That’s so good,’ because everyone knows I’m obsessed! I love this game,” she told the BBC. “This is like my dream.”

Additionally, Myha’la joined the pool of celebrities who have joined the show with the hopes of sneaking around as a Traitor.

“For a lot of reasons [I want to be a Traitor], but one is because I want to stay in the game as long as possible. And two because I think as a Faithful, this is going to be really hard for me,” Myha’la said, however Claudia Winkleman chose Richard E Grant and Maya Jama as the Traitors.

‘People are going to target you’

“I’ve studied it enough to know that people like me who come in as super fans are seen as huge threats and once you’re a threat, it doesn’t matter who you are, people are going to target you.

“As a Traitor at least I’ll stay in the game long enough to prove myself a bit. It will be an insane uphill battle convincing people that I’m not Harper too!

“I’ve very deliberately planned the looks that I’m wearing to really separate and be seen as me and not that character. I’ve got my jewellery; my hair is different, I’ve really, really, really planned this.”

The opening episode also saw Coronation Street’s Julie Hesmondhalgh fan-girling over Myha’la.

“It’s lovely to meet you. I’m such a huge fan Myha’la, I’ve watched all of Industry,” Hesmondhalgh said to the fellow actor.

Is Myha’la LGBTQ+?

Myha’la identifies publicly as queer and bisexual. Speaking to Them earlier this year, she spoke of the “strictness” around bisexual women.

“I feel really lucky that I’m no longer surrounded by people who quantify or qualify or compare their queerness to mine or to someone else’s or police how much space I can take up in any given community because of the optics or whatever,” she said.

Myha’la married actor Armando Rivera in 2025. In the Them interview, she also added: “To be fair, none of y’all know how gay my man is. Come on now. You have no idea. And you’ll never know. You don’t know nothing about us at all, really. And like you said, it’s not secret; it’s just none of your business.”

The Celebrity Traitors continues Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm on BBC One.
