Chris Colfer breaks silence on Glee re-boot as Ryan Murphy finishes script

Chris Colfer has said he knows “nothing” and has “heard absolutely nothing” about a potential Glee reboot, despite recent comments from co-creator Ryan Murphy that a script has been written.

Speaking to Bustle, the actor and author was asked about reboot chatter and whether he would return. “I know nothing and have heard absolutely nothing,” Colfer said, adding: “I wish I did.”

Out gay actor Colfer, who played Kurt Hummel throughout the Fox musical series’ six-season run, also reflected on what it would mean to revisit the show now. “It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone,” he said.

He also joked that saying no might not be simple. “But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no.”

What has Ryan Murphy said about a Glee reboot?

Murphy has previously suggested he is open to revisiting Glee, and the conversation picked up again in September when he said he, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan had written something for a reboot.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Murphy said: “Well, funny you ask, cause I just finished the script an hour ago.”

Murphy also said he had been in touch with around 10 original cast members and described them as “very enthusiastic” about the idea, adding: “Nobody has read it.”

Is the Glee reboot actually happening?

For now, there is still a gap between a script existing and a series being made. The reboot has not been picked up to air, and is currently just a project being worked on by the show creators.

Glee aired from 2009 to 2015 and followed a glee club at the fictional William McKinley High School. Colfer won a Golden Globe for playing out gay character Kurt, and he has also built a second career as a bestselling children’s and YA author with The Land of Stories series.
