“Fake” transsexuals prompt ID eunuch cards
Indian eunuchs who usually beg at celebrations, are issuing their own identity cards in reaction to “fake” transsexuals muscling in on their patch.
Eunuchs, the name for castrated males, often attend parties prompting patrons to give them money in order to spare embarrassment.
But the community is now seeking identity documents after transvestites, predominantly men dressed as a women, are following the same trend and demanding high amounts of cash using threatening tactics and often robbing people.
One eunuch, Sanju Masi, told the Indian Express, “Before, eunuchs were treated with kid gloves, but the fake ones won’t go away with just 10 rupees.
“The problem has intensified and they abuse people if they don’t pay them.”
India has around one million eunuchs, the community once guarded the emperor’s wives, but now struggle to find jobs and are often forced to beg.
