Another racist row on Big Brother
A racist contestant on the new series of Big Brother was evicted from the show in the early hours of yesterday morning for calling her housemate a “nigger.”
Student Emily Parr, 19, was thrown off the show after she said: “Are you pushing it out, you nigger?”
The remark was directed at black contestant Charley Uchea, 21.
Channel Four apologised just days ago for the racist row on its Celebrity Big Brother series.
The newest exchange was not screened live and immediately reported to senior production staff, who removed Parr from the house.
Angela Jain, who heads Channel 4’s Big Brother commissioning team, said: “She [Parr] understands why her involvement in Big Brother has come to an end, and she very much regrets what she said.”
She went on to say: “”The word ‘nigger’ is clearly racially offensive and there
was no justification for its use. We have removed Emily from the house to once again make it clear to all housemates and the viewers at home that such behaviour won’t be tolerated.”
Parr had already been nominated for eviction.
Blonde, blue-eyed Parr wants to write for fashion magazine Vogue and went into the Big Brother house to find romance.
She is a supporter of the Conservative Party and is said to dislike “people who tell white lies, are ignorant or deliberately stupid”.
After a series of scandals over premium rate phone lines, Channel 4 have said that they will not make a profit from the phone votes. The channel and programme maker Endemol faced criticisms over the handling of previous votes. It will now cost 25p per vote.
On this year’s Celebrity Big Brother there was a mix up in the voting for one eviction and in last year’s a contestant was let back into the house, despite being voted out by viewers.
