An image purporting to show Taylor Lautner coming out on the cover of a January edition of People magazine has been dismissed as a fake by the magazine.

Celebrities sent congratulations to the 19-year-old star of the Twilight series before it was revealed to be a joke.

Lautner, who was reportedly the highest-paid teen actor in Hollywood last year, was the subject of a prank in which a copy of the People magazine front cover was “leaked”.

Under a photo of him was written “Out and Proud. Tired of rumors, the Twilight star opens up about his decision to finally come out.”

But the cover was revealed to have been faked. #

Julie Farin, a spokeswoman for People, said: “The cover in question is 100 per cent fake. This began as a ridiculous Twitter joke that went viral.”

Many Twitter users sent congratulations to the teen star, while others reacted with disbelief on hearing about the cover.

Lautner has been romantically linked to Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez in the past.
