Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki has claimed world governments are under attack from “gaypower”.

The head of the conservative Pentecostal Christian group is well known in New Zealand for his anti-gay views.

He has previously described homosexuality as “modern day witchcraft”.

The New Zealand Herald reported Mr Tamaki as saying at a conference: “Gaypower, that spirit is so powerful it’s changing political institutions and half of them don’t even want it, but they’re forced to.

“Churches are powerless. You go there now and you talk about that now and you’d be driven out of town.

“Not by the gays, because they’re so well organised, but most of the neutral population agree with them. Gay is the new thing, it’s taking over the world.

“It’s a fire that’s allowed to burn because the church ran out of fire. After a while the whole globe is going to be on fire.”

A politician in New Zealand recently described plans to offer free surgery to trans people as “nutty”. There is currently a 40-year waiting list for some surgeries.

An effort to ask internet users to design a new national flag for New Zealand recently went as badly as could be predicted.
