Conservative Senator Cory Bernardi is not exactly famed for his pro-equal marriage views.

In fact, the politician is campaigning for the ‘no’ camp of the same-sex marriage postal vote, and is staunchly against equal marriage.

That’s what made his unlikely appearance in a Labor ‘yes’ campaign photo simply a ridiculous piece of content for the Great Museum of the Internet.

And no, Bernardi did not celebrate his impromptu appearance with grace.

He went as far as to cover his entire face with his hands in a manner akin to hungover teenager seeing light for the first time since the night before.

“You couldn’t write this stuff,” Labor politician Dr Anne Aly told BuzzFeed News.

“It was one of those moments in life when the timing is so perfect.”

It is hard to have sympathy for a man who thinks that advocating gay marriage is akin to supporting bestiality, so here’s some more from the Twittersphere’s mocking eye:

It appears Banardi is in fine company, even if he doesn’t appreciate it.

Australians can mark their ballot in the equal marriage postal vote until 6pm on November 7.

And much to Barnardi’s chagrin, it looks like the voluntary vote will see 70% of voting Australians in favour of marriage for all.
