It’s one of the best scenes from the 1996 classic film, and now this scene from Matilda is being used for a hilarious Twitter challenge.

Fans have been recreating the scene where Matilda dances in her living room to Thurston Harris’ “Little Bitty Pretty One” while moving things around with her magic powers.

The film has its fair share of devotees, with countless people making their own videos to recreate the iconic moment and sharing it with the hashtag #MatildaChallenge.

One of the best examples of the #MatildaChallenge already has 82,000 likes.

The film has a cult following, with many LGBT+ people gravitating towards the film. Mara Wilson, who played Matilda and starred alongside Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, recently shared a theory about why so many lesbians love the film.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, she said: “It was one of the few children’s films to show a strong, resilient female character overcome adversity and a family that did not understand her to create her own family and her own happiness through hard work and friendship.

“Also, they all have crushes on Miss Honey.”

Wilson came out as bisexual/queer in 2016 in the aftermath of the Orlando massacre.

Speaking about going to a gay club when she was 18, she said she felt welcomed and that the LGBT+ community “has always felt like home”.

“I *used* to identify as mostly straight. I’ve embraced the Bi/Queer label lately,” she added.

Wilson says that she sits at a 2 on the Kinsey scale, with 0 being exclusively straight and 6 being exclusively gay.

Wilson yesterday expressed her love for the #MatildaChallenge and even shared some of her favourite examples with fans.

Wilson, who is now 31, no longer acts in films, and has released a book called Where Am I Now about her experiences of being a child actor.
