Killing Eve season 2 premieres in the US, but UK fans have to wait

Actors Sandra Oh (L) and Jodie Comer of 'Killing Eve' speak onstage during the BBC America portion of the 2018 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour at The Langham Huntington, Pasadena on January 12, 2018 in Pasadena, California.

While Killing Eve season two has already premiered on BBC America, UK fans will have to wait a while longer before they can watch it.

Killing Eve, the award-winning show about an MI5 office worker becoming obsessed with the search for an international assassin, aired on BBC America in the US on Sunday (April 7).

However, UK audiences will have to wait as the BBC is yet to announce a premiere date for the second season.

For British fans, it is expected to air in June, by which time all episodes will have been broadcasted on BBC America across the Atlantic.

Where can UK audiences watch Killing Eve?

Starring Grey Anatomy‘s Sandra Oh, who won a Golden Globe for her performance as Eve Polanski, and Jodie Comer as Villanelle, the TV show was directly produced for BBC America.

“BBC America are playing it out in weekly episodes,” a BBC spokesperson told The Guardian, explaining the reason for the different release dates in the US and the UK, “This means we have to wait until BBC America have premiered all of the weekly episodes—which as commissioning broadcaster they are entitled to do—before we can begin our transmission, otherwise we would be premiering episodes before them.”

Once released, UK audiences will be able to binge-watch all eight episodes of Killing Eve season two on BBC Three, BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

“The decision to make it a box set was based around how we thought audiences would enjoy the programme. We are still experimenting with different release models and we know last time audiences really loved the fact we did this as a box set so they could binge,” the BBC spokesperson told The Guardian.

Last year, fans were able to watch the first season on these platforms five months after it aired in the US.

The show is based on a series of novels by Luke Jennings, Codename Villanelle—the villain played by Comer, who recently noted how her character resonated with LGBT audiences.

The first season was developed by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is however no longer involved in season two.

Speaking to the BBC, producer Sally Woodward Gentle said the new season will explore how both Eve and Villanelle deal with the consequences of her own actions.

Killing Eve season two starts moments after the end of the first eight-part season, when officer Polastri stabbed Villanelle after a dramatic encounter, only for the assassin to disappear out of sight.

Critics have so far praised the new season.

Digital Spy said it “is just as delightful and addictive as the first” and Rolling Stone wrote that it still “hits all the right twisted, darkly-comic notes.”
