YouTuber James Charles has recently hit headlines after a feud with fellow YouTuber Tati Westbrook resulted in a loss of almost three million subscribers and counting. But who exactly is this young man, what was the drama about and what is his net worth?

Charles is a gay make-up guru and vlogger who had been friends with Westbrook until the pair fell out, causing him to lose millions of subscribers on YouTubers as well as followers on Instagram.

What is James Charles’s net worth?

Despite his young age, Charles has proven to become very successful from his make-up, collaborations and social media.

Charles, who became the first male ambassador for CoverGirl in 2016, has an estimated net worth of $12 million (£9 million).

What’s his subscriber count now compared to before?

As Charles’s subscriber count on YouTube continues to decrease, his former friend Westbrook’s subscriber count increases.

Since the feud began, Charles has shed almost three million subscribers, dropping from 16.5 million a week ago to 13.5 million followers.

According to YouTube stats recorded, he is losing hundreds of thousands of followers and subscribers each day.

Westbrook, on the other hand, is seeing an increase since the feud began. The Tati YouTube channel had started with seven million subscribers and now has almost 10 million.

Why did James Charles lose so many subscribers and followers?

The gay YouTube star shed 2.5 million subscribers after a feud brought up allegations of abusive conduct.

It all started at Coachella on April 22, when Charles posted an Instagram ad promoting Sugar Bear Hair, a company which sells similar products to Westbrook, making them her competition.

But all seemed well and good as Charles, 19, publicly apologised to Westbrook, 37, saying she had been “like a mother” to him. He said he did not think about the fact that the brand he was advertising was in direct competition with her brand.

But then their row deepened once again when another YouTuber got into the mix before Westbrook had a chance to respond to Charles’s apology.

Beauty guru Gabriel Zamora inserted himself into the drama when he posted a video in which he slammed Westbrook for her “fraudulent” behaviour.

This was enough to push Westbrook over the edge. In a 43-minute video, she detailed at length how her relationship with Charles came to an end from her perspective.

“From the time that I met him when he was 17 before he really had taken off on YouTube at all, I know that he has a way of just getting what he wants,” Westbrook said.

“The moment that everything kicked off, he started panicking. He was texting me, and then it got increasingly demanding, and I don’t deal well with someone telling me that I need to accept an apology on their terms to fix their problems,” she continued.

“So when you cannot even say ‘I’m so sorry, I knew this was going to hurt you, I hate seeing you cry, oh my gosh, I can’t believe you’re feeling this upset, I didn’t think you’d be this upset.’ When you can’t have any emotion for the other person who loves you so much and all you’re caring about is your image and that people are questioning if it’s you and people are commenting and that’s what you’re worried about, I’m not OK with that.”

“Fame, power and a fat bank account will change almost anyone.”

She then said that she intended to go and talk to Charles in person about the conflict, but changed her mind when she found out that he had been talking to “drama channels” about the conflict, hence other YouTubers getting involved.

“Fame, power and a fat bank account will change almost anyone,” she added. “If you don’t have people that will tell you to your face that you are doing the wrong things, you will change.”

All of this drama has ultimately angered fans who have taken sympathy to Westbrook. Some people have even shared videos of them burning his make-up palettes.
