This guy booked a flight to meet a Grindr guy before even knowing his name and people have thoughts

Tim Wright, based in London, England, booked flights to meet a date from Grindr and people had no choice but to applaud him. (Tim Wright)

It look Tim Wright less than two hours to book a flight from London, England, to Helsinki, Finland, all to visit a guy he had only just met on Grindr.

But did we mention he didn’t even know the guy’s name before booking the £162.61 flight? Yeah.

The exchange between Wright, who wore heels to his graduation, prompted hundreds of users to express a mixture of concern and support towards his expert-level spontaneity.

Wright, a data scientist, told PinkNews that no matter how the first date goes, he gets a “cute weekend away in Finland”.

‘Twenty minutes later and I’ve booked my flights with Finnair.’

On a regular morning on January 22, Wright started swapping yellow and blue messages on Grindr with a user.

“It was boilerplate Grindr fodder, ‘what do you do?’, ‘what are you into?’, exchange with a couple of pics,” Wright explained.

“He told me that he lives in West London and was free to meet tonight, or after he gets back from his weekend away in Helsinki and jokingly said: ‘Unless you wanted to come to Helsinki?’

“Twenty minutes later and I’ve booked my flights with Finnair.

“Another five minutes later and he gave me his name and number!”

As is dating decorum, say hi, book the flights, then get their number and only then may you learn their name.

‘I almost admire the confidence and spontaneity of it all.’

When Wright dropped a screenshot of the chat, Twitter’s reaction was a laundry bag of “go for it!” alongside telling him not to become a You plot line.

Guy who booked flights for first Grindr date feels ‘excited’.

As much as people doubt finding love on the tiled torsos of Grindr, Wright is feeling energised about his date.

“I’m feeling really excited about the date!” Wright said.

“I figure that there’s not really any more risk than meeting at a guy’s house or in a coffee shop.

“If you lived in Antwerp, it would probably be pretty normal to cross state lines to meet a cute Dutch boy for a shag!

“Best case scenario, I get a cute weekend away in Finland with him; I figure the worst case is that we don’t click and I get my own hotel and find some hunky Nord to keep me warm at night!

“Honestly, I just love to travel and am very excited to explore Helsinki either way!

“It’s gotta be a better first date than getting too drunk in a Wetherspoons and making out in a back alley.”

We are here for this truly chaotic but truly inspirational energy. Wright booked the first flight to Stonewall.
