Viral singer Charlotte Awbery just gave the gays everything they wanted as she announced her debut single
Charlotte Awbery told Lorraine Kelly in no uncertain terms that she is coming for Lady Gaga, Adele and every other big pop girl with the release of her debut single.
Two icons collided as the viral sensation sat down with the theatrical artiste to discuss her plans for world domination.
Awbrey confirmed that she’ll kickstart her assault on the charts with a cover of “Shallow”, the song that made her famous, before “hopefully” releasing original material.
“It’s been my dream since I was a little girl,” she said.
“I write all my own stuff, fingers crossed I’m going to start showing people my own music.”
Shortly after the interview aired, it was confirmed that Awbery will perform the song live at London’s G-A-Y on March 14.
Charlotte Awbery: A star is born.
Awbery has gone from local wedding singer to world-renowned chanteuse since a video of her singing “Shallow” went viral in February.
The Essex-based singer told Kelly that contrary to rumour, the video was not in any way staged.
“I was literally just going to meet a friend,” she said. “It was random. It was mad. Thankfully I knew the song.”
When the video exploded, Awbery was flying to New York.
“It was just me and the girlies,” she explained. “It was only when I got to the other end and my mum phoned me to see if I’d landed safe, and she said: ‘Have you seen what’s going on?’
I was blown away. You couldn’t write it.
Soon after, Awbery was invited onto The Ellen DeGeneres Show to perform the song.
When she first got the call inviting her on to the show, she said, she “didn’t think it was real”.
“The whole thing has felt surreal from start to finish,” she said.
“It’s unbelievable, it’s so lovely, it’s like a rollercoaster really.
“As much as I’ve always sung and I’ve done weddings and parties – to actually be on telly and be filmed on air is just massive. It’s scary.”
