This video of ‘Hot Priest’ Andrew Scott reciting soothing, beautiful poetry is exactly what we need right now

Andrew Scott Derek Mahon poem

Andrew Scott reciting “Everything Is Going To Be Alright” by Derek Mahon is making these bizarre, terrifying, and stressful times feel a little bit better.

The Fleabag actor, better known as Hot Priest, filmed himself reciting the work of the acclaimed Northern Irish poet Derek Mahon.

But in typical Andrew Scott style, he doesn’t just read it — he performs it, and it is a truly magical sight to behold.

The Irish star delivers what may be one of his best-ever performances, and it is easily the most soothing thing to emerge from this pandemic.

Twitter is having a serious moment over Andrew Scott reading a Derek Mahon poem.

The gorgeous performance was shared by Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke on Instagram.

The beautiful, breathtaking talent that is Andrew Scott reads for us ‘Everything is Going to be All Right’ by Derek Mahon,” Clarke wrote.

She revealed that Scott recorded his performance of the poem in dedication to Men Against Cancer Ireland.

It comes under the prescription for need for reassurance,” she wrote, before quoting the poem as it appears in The Poetry Pharmacy by William Sieghart, along with an extract from the book.

“There’s a comfort to those words, whether or not they’ll prove to be true.

“Of course, some wounds don’t heal, and some wrongs go un-righted. But in the grander sense, in the everything sense, things to tend to be all right.”

The video has also sent Twitter into overdrive, for obvious reasons.

Hot Priest star is ‘making lives better’.

Actor Leonor Varela commented: “Just WOW….the poem, the reader! Andrew words in you mouth and eyes become entire landscapes. Thank you for this little bit of medicine for my soul.”

Another Instagram user simply commented: “The sexy priest making lives better.”

Scott has a loyal fanbase for his performances over the years in the likes of Sherlock and Pride, but the actor came to international prominence last year when he took on the role of Hot Priest in Fleabag.

The performance earned him a slew of acting nominations and awards as the British television series took the world by storm.

When he won the Critics’ Choice Award last year for his towering performance, he thanked his co-star Phoebe Waller Bridge for “fostering an atmosphere that was so creative, generous and wonderful”.
