Tan France reveals the beauty product he can’t live without – and it’s inspired by Sex and the City

Tan France skincare favourites

Tan France has revealed his go-to beauty buy, and the good news is its an affordable, cult-favourite lip balm.

In an interview with The Strategist, the Queer Eye fashion guru discussed some of his favourite things from skincare to clothing – and this includes the Carmex Classic Lip Balm Stick.

He admits that the reason behind Carmex being one of his favourite beauty buys is thanks to Sex and the City and character Carrie Bradshaw.

Tan says: “This is going to make me sound pathetic, but I started using it because Carrie Bradshaw used it. I was obsessed with Sex and the City when I was a teenager. Carrie uses the pat-on one in the show, whereas I use the stick.”

He notes that the affordable lip balm stands up against the more expensive versions which don’t “last quite as long” as the classic Carmex.

An expensive lip balm can set you back around £20 but the Carmex Classic Lip Balm tube or pot is only priced between £1-£3 from Boots, Superdrug and Amazon.

The lip balm is a cult-favourite thanks to its long-lasting relief for dry and chapped lips that are affected by sun, wind or low temperatures.

It can be applied in the morning as part of your skincare routine, or liberally throughout the day as well as before and after lipstick application to restore moisture.

In the interview he also revealed that he’s a fan of Levi’s 501 Original Fit Women’s Jeans because they’re tapered and have a higher waist than the jeans from the men’s section.

However there is one flaw, as Tan says: “My only issue with women’s jeans is that they’re made with such tiny pockets. It sounds dumb, but why on earth are the pockets so shallow?

“Has it ever occurred to anyone that women want to carry things in their pockets, too? The reason why she has to carry a purse all the time is because you’re not giving her enough pocket space!”

Tan recently shared the happy news that he and his husband Rob are expecting their first child, a baby boy, via surrogate this summer.

He announced the news on Instagram alongside a topless selfie of himself cradling an ultrasound picture of his future son over his belly.

“So happy to finally share that WE’RE HAVING A BABY!!” he wrote. “No, I’m not pregnant, despite this VERY realistic pic.

“With the greatest gift/help of the most wonderful surrogate, Rob and I are lucky enough to be on our way to being parents, this summer.”
