Hayley Kiyoko once played Velma in a Scooby-Doo film – and yes, the gay agenda is real
Lesbian singer and former Scooby-Doo actor Hayley Kiyoko has reacted to the news that Velma is finally a confirmed lesbian in the best way.
The Girls like Girls singer, known for producing sapphic pop music, played Velma Dinkley in the long-forgotten about live-action movies Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster in 2009 and 2010.
At that point, fans had firm beliefs that Velma was a lesbian although it was not yet confirmed on screen, and it seems Kiyoko thought the same.
“I remember booking Velma in 2008. It was my first big role in a movie,” she tweeted, “I also remember thinking ‘I wonder if they know they hired a lesbian as Velma’ here we are, 14 years later…… love you all so much.”

She replied to a different tweet about the news saying: “I feel alive and seen”.
And in a similar reaction on her Instagram story, she added: “I’m happy for her coming out! I’m surprised and also not surprised whatsoever.”
When Hayley Kiyoko played Velma, she was out to her family and friends but not to the public. She opened up about her sexuality in 2015.
Many fans were thrilled by the link between to two queer icons.
“The fact that she was literally intended to be gay combined with the fact that Hayley Kiyoko played her in one of the live-action movies really hits it home,” one user wrote.
While another added: “People are really going to argue that Velma isn’t gay when she has been played by the queen of lesbians, Hayley Kiyoko,” and someone else said: “Cartoon network knew what they were doing when they cast lesbian Jesus herself as Velma.”
you cant at one point cast lesbian jesus herself, hayley kiyoko, as a character and expect that character to turn out straight this is just like when disney tried to convince us that alex and stevie didn't have A Thing Going On https://t.co/2J9KgQBu2V— asian thalia grace ?? Velma was confirmed as queer in the latest Scooby-Doo film, Trick or Treat Scooby Doo.
In the animated HBO Max title, Velma falls head over heels for Coco Diablo, costume designer and criminal, with many scenes showing just how hard she is crushing.
Kiyoko is certainly not the first to push the gay Velma agenda, with director James Gunn attempting to make Velma a lesbian in the hugely popular 2002 live-action film.
Meanwhile, in the animated series Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, it was heavily implied Velma was a lesbian and in love with another character, Marcie (aka Hot Dog Water).
