Oh, Chappell Roan, the icon that you are. During a music festival segment, the singer took the time to call out her fans’ exes, warning the crowd, “You just wait!”
The “Pink Pony Club” hitmaker launched her summer music festival touring run with a headline slot at Øya in Oslo, Norway, on Wednesday (6 August), where she unveiled the hilarious bit.
After opening with “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” on the whimsical, gothic castle-themed stage, she moved through her hits, including “Femininomenon”, “Good Luck, Babe!” and her latest track, “The Subway”.
But it was the opening of her penultimate single, the sapphic country bop “The Giver”, which had fans in stitches. Chappell Roan asked her fans to write in about their exes prior to the show, “and the reason they couldn’t get the job done, if you know what I mean”.
Reading from the list, Chappell Roan urged the crowd to “boo” after each name. The crowd immediately jeered after the star unveiled the first target of the game, “Daniel”, to which she responded, “You’re really going to ‘boo’, you just wait!”
She continued, explaining his alleged actions were, “He didn’t want to take off his Temu ring during—”, she said, eyeballing the crowd suggestively. “F*** Temu!” Roan then proclaimed, referencing the China-based retailer, after previously publicly sharing her disdain for fast fashion.
Next, Roan called out “Adam,” who “stopped s****ing me so he could play Fortnite,” she claimed. A staunch lover of the video game, the singer asked booing fans not to heckle “too much on the Fortnite, I like Fortnite.”
But the loudest reaction was for the third and final alleged culprit, “Jacob”, who she claimed cheated on his partner “twice in the same Burger King parking lot”.
“F*** you, Jacob!” she exclaimed. She effortlessly bridged the bit into a rendition of “The Giver” after she exclaimed, “You should have asked me. You know why? ‘Cause I get the job done.”
The star is set to appear at a series of summer festivals, including Denmark’s Syd For Solen, Way Out West in Sweden, Sziget in Hungary, Paris’ Rock En Seine, before her headline slot at Reading & Leeds festival.
Roan has also announced a run of pop-up shows in the US, which is set to kick off in New York in September.
