Hudson Williams has been confirmed for a role in Amazon MGM’s upcoming film Tyrant, described as a “culinary thriller”.

The Heated Rivalry actor is among the latest names added to the project, alongside singer Omar Apollo. Charlize Theron, Julia Garner and Demi Moore were already attached in lead roles.

A casting update from Deadline on 28 April said additional confirmed cast members include Harry Potter star Paapa Essiedu, who is set to play Severus Snape in the upcoming HBO reboot, and lifestyle and content creator Nara Smith, alongside Williams and Apollo.

What we know about Tyrant

Character and story specifics are still being kept under wraps.

The film is reportedly being positioned as a “high-stakes thriller in the vein of Wall Street and Whiplash set within New York City’s elite fine dining scene”, according to Deadline. David Weil directs from his own screenplay.

The movie is in production, and is due to film in LA this year.

Hudson William is making moves

Hudson Williams’ star power has been on a steep rise since he shot to global fame as closeted hockey player Shane Hollander in Heated Rivalry. He is also due to film the second season this year, with a release date of April 2027.

His popularity recently saw him appear in Laufey’s music video for “Madwoman”.

Meanwhile, Mexican-American singer-songwriter Omar Apollo broke through with the 2019 EP Friends and the 2022 album Ivory, building a fanbase around his blend of R&B, pop and indie influences. He has been open about being queer in interviews and is widely embraced by LGBTQ+ fans.

Tyrant will be Apollo’s first acting role since 2024, when he appeared opposite James Bond star Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino’s Queer. He previously shared a full-frontal scene with Craig on Instagram, and later hit back at “homophobes” after losing followers over the post.
