Katseye’s Lara and Megan address bisexual erasure they face after coming out

KATSEYE members Lara and Megan

Katseye members Megan Skiendiel and Lara Raj have addressed the backlash they get from some fans for dating men after coming out as bisexual and queer, respectively.

Megan came out as bisexual in June last year, weeks after bandmate Lara came out as queer. The group – which also features Sophia Laforteza, Daniela Avanzini and Manon Bannerman (who is currently on hiatus) – regularly uses their platform to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community, featuring trans models including Vivian Wilson in their “Pinky Up” video, and member Yoonchae giving Lara a gift for Pride Month.

Now, speaking to Allure, Megan and Lara have spoken more about their queerness, and the bisexual erasure they feel.

Lara said: “I like everyone. I will date anyone. I think people really try to invalidate that because of who we currently or have publicly dated.

“But I’ve dated so many girls and it’s such a beautiful experience to be with women and it’s something that’s a very core and important part of me that will always be with me for the rest of my life.”

Megan agreed, adding: “I came out as bisexual, but me dating men doesn’t take that away from me. My first relationship was with a girl, but [the fans] don’t know that.

“I feel like people should just be able to be who they are no matter what. When it comes to race, identity, whatever, if that’s who you are, then be who the f*** you are and no one should take that away from you.”

Support from fans

A number of fans have reacted to the interview, sharing their own frustrations of bi erasure.

One said: “I’m so p***** off being a bisexual woman and having to justify and defend your orientation to everyone all the time, it’s just that we don’t owe anyone anything.”

Another noted: “Never let people tell you that biphobia isn’t a thing!” One fan echoed: “And people still think biphobia and bi erasure isn’t a thing.”

Someone else said of Megan’s words: “She’s so right it’s so tiring with how even the majority of the queer community get so comfortable being biphobic just because a bi woman is dating a man.”

Another wrote on X: “I swear, it’s so surreal that they have to explain the bare minimum.”

And someone else added: “I love these dives talking openly about being queer, that’s exactly what we need!”
