Kristen Stewart wants a Twilight reboot where Bella comes out as gay

Kristen Stewart wants a Twilight reboot in which Bella Swan returns as a gay woman.
The idea came up during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen alongside her The Wrong Girls co-star Alia Shawkat.
Asked about a previous comment that she’d be open to a Twilight reboot, Stewart admitted she had been “mostly joking”, but said that if she did revisit it, she’d rather continue the story than simply remake it.
That was all the encouragement Shawkat needed. “Bella would come back and be like ‘I’m gay’,” she quipped, sending Stewart into fits of laughter.
Shawkat pitched the imagined reboot as “hot, modern, fresh”, and the pair jokingly nominated Stewart’s screenwriter wife, Dylan Meyer, to write it.
Stewart ran with the bit, joking that her version of Bella would return with the line: “I’m gonna f*** your whole family.” She then paused, realising she’d never actually said the phrase before, and added: “God, it feels good.”
The openly queer actress, who played Bella across all five Twilight films between 2008 and 2012, has spoken before about seeing the saga through a queer lens.
In a 2024 interview with Variety, she called it “such a gay movie”, arguing that its themes of hidden desire and “wanting what’s going to destroy you” gave it “a very Gothic, gay inclination that I love”.
Stewart married Meyer earlier this year. The pair recently worked together on The Wrong Girls, Meyer’s directorial debut, in which Stewart stars.
