You may be wondering why Twitter users have been changing their profile pictures to the ‘&’ sign in the colours of the transgender flag.
This trend was started by GLAAD on Monday (April 8). They tweeted: “Trump’s ban on transgender service members will go into effect on April 12, 2019. Trump has been targeting trans people from the moment he took office.

“We’re changing our profile picture to show support for trans people everywhere, and we encourage you to do the same.”
Since the LGBT+ organisation shared the message, Twitter users from all around the world have changed their profile pictures to support trans people ahead of April 12, when the ban will be implemented.
GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis further urged people to change their profile picture in a post. It read: “Trump’s ban on transgender service members will go into effect this Friday. The ampersand represents the power of our voices together.
“I’m changing my profile picture to stand with all of the trans people who have been targeted by this Administration’s actions. Please join me.”
