Madonna cancels yet another Madame X show, the ninth of the tour so far
Madonna has cancelled yet another show on her Madame X tour in Lisbon, citing pain from “ongoing injuries” as the reason.
The ‘Like a Prayer’ singer has now cancelled nine shows on her tour because of the pain.
A statement shared on Twitter, apparently posted at the concert venue in Lisbon, Portugal, said the January 22 show had been cancelled.
“We regret to inform you that Madonna is unable to perform this evening due to her pain from her ongoing injuries,” the statement read.
Madonna: final Lisbon date is set to go ahead as planned.
The statement suggested that tonight’s show (January 23) – the last of her Lisbon dates – will go ahead as planned.
“We sincerely regret the disappointment to fans due to the unforeseen and last-minute changes to the schedule. We appreciate the well-wishes for Madonna’s recovery,” the statement finished.
The cancellation comes just a day after Madonna shared a video of a party she hosted in Lisbon where she can be seen walking up a flight of stairs using a cane.
We sincerely regret the disappointment to fans due to the unforeseen and last-minute changes to the schedule.
“Oh good, more steps,” Madonna said in the video.
“In Lisbon where Madame X began her journey,” Madonna wrote on Twitter.

“Thank goodness for my beautiful vintage cane,” she added.
The pop star cancelled another Lisbon date on Sunday just 45 minutes before the show was supposed to begin.
Last night’s cancellation comes just days after Madonna cancelled her Lisbon show set for Sunday (January 19) just 45 minutes before the show was set to begin.
Ticket holders received an email at 7.45pm which read: “We regret to inform you that Madonna is unable to perform this evening.” She had been due on stage at 8.30pm.
Madonna wrote on Instagram that she was “sorry” to cancel the show, adding: “I must listen to my body and rest.”
She said she will return to Lisbon’s Coliseu dos Recreios on Tuesday, January 21, “fingers crossed.”
Last night’s cancellation marked the ninth cancellation of the Madame X tour so far.
Production issues meant that the first and second planned concerts were rescheduled, with the third cancelled entirely. Similar reasons were given for the cancellation of an LA date.
A fourth New York date was nixed due to injury, with medical reasons also cited for the cancellation of all three planned Boston dates.
While Madonna has not explained exactly what medical issues she is battling, the North American run of the tour – which finds the pop icon switching stadiums for intimate theatres – ended a day early because of her “indescribable pain”.
