Ariana Grande, the reigning monarch of pop music, released her hotly-awaited sixth studio album Positions on Friday (30 October) and it can only be described as Horny on Main: The Musical.

Eclipsing thank u, next, an album that dealt with the trauma and tragedy that the 27-year-old has experienced, comes sex. A lot of sex.

With thinly-veiled euphemisms, the mid-90s-style RnB album sees the singer look to the lighter side of life, which is seriously welcomed considering 2020 is a dumpster fire made out of several thousand smaller dumpster fires which are themselves made out of clusters of subatomic dumpster fires.

And it was safe to say that Twitter felt the same. With winkingly named songs such as “34+35” to tracks that explore post-break-up healing (“Off the Table”), Positions has positioned Grande, once again, as our saviour.

In other words, after dropping the single “Positions“, which saw the hitmaker become president of the United States, Grande is saying you have the federally-mandated right to be horny.

Although, some users felt Ariana Grande’s Positions kinda fell flat.

Many of the whistle-filled songs appear to be about how Grande may have spent quarantine with her Los Angeles realtor boyfriend Dalton Gomez. The pair have, according to sources, been dating for several months.

She previously acknowledged that they are dating with the music video for her May 2020 song “Stuck With U”, and essentially laid bare about how she feels about him in the single “Positions”.

But that song similarly drew a mixed reaction from fans. Many lauded Grande for not only producing music amid the throes of the coronavirus pandemic but for making a music video full of digs towards US president Donald Trump.

The Dave Meyers-directed clip also finds Ariana signing laws, walking dogs on the White House lawn and meeting with her majority-female cabinet.

While others said that the single didn’t achieve everything it set out to. “I like ‘Positions’,” one user said,  “but it’s kind of a painting by numbers Ariana song.

“Sonically it would be good to see more growth and evolution considering she’s definitely in a position (lol) where she could take more risks.”
