Schitt’s Creek’s iconic motel is up for sale

Rosebud Motel Schitt's Creek

The iconic motel that served as the home of the fictional Rose family across six seasons of Schitt’s Creek has been put up for sale for C$2 million (£1,150,500, or $1.6 million US).

Fans of the hit television series, created by Dan Levy, will know the expansive building as the Rosebud Motel, owned by Stevie Budd (Emily Hampshire) and run with the help of Johnny Rose (Eugene Levy).

The 6.7 acre site, which was used to film exterior shots of the motel in Schitt’s Creek, has been listed as for sale by estate agents Colliers International.

The advert boasts that the motel served as the backdrop for Schitt’s Creek, and was also used in an episode of Netflix series The Umbrella Academy.

According to the listing, the property is “surrounded by nature” and is located near the Nottawasaga River, a “highly desirable” fishing spot.

The large motel is currently not in operation – but the estate agents are hoping to find a new owner to breathe life into the it.

Schitt’s Creek Rosebud Motel is just 90 minutes away from Toronto

“The property offers refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big city, and is an easily accessible escape from downtown Toronto (1.5 hours), and an hour or less from other nearby trading cities, including Barrie, Collingwood and Guelph, among others,” the advert says.

The listing includes a video of the property showing Rosebud Motel in all its glory, albeit without the famous sign erected by Johnny Rose in the sitcom.

The news comes just weeks after the Rose family’s luxurious mansion, featured prominently in the Schitt’s Creek pilot episode, was put up for sale.

The 12-bedroom mansion was originally listed for C$14.98 million (£8,617,500) in February, but the price was later pushed up to C$19.98 million (£11,495,800).

Schitt’s Creek bowed out in 2020 with its sixth season and went on to pick up nine awards at the Emmys, the highest number a comedy series has ever won in a single year.

The series was a sleeper hit. It premiered on CBC in Canada and Pop TV in America, before making its way to Netflix in 2017. There, the show gained huge popularity – and became a massive hit among LGBT+ people everywhere for its creation of a homophobia-free zone in the fictional town of Schitt’s Creek.
