Tubi’s free Pride Month merchandise drop went viral after offering a strictly limited run of slogan T-shirts, a jockstrap and a bright yellow harness, with stock selling out within hours and then disappearing again in a second release.
The collection was shared by designer and creative director Cole Poska on Instagram, while the giveaway itself ran via the streamer’s Pride merch drop site.
The range included T-shirts with slogans such as “I got my A$$ ate while watching a Tubi original” and “You can watch for free”, plus a tank top reading “Proud Tubi Gay”. It also featured a jockstrap with the word “Free” on its waistband and a yellow Tubi harness.
Poska said Tubi approached him to produce the strictly limited-edition range, which quickly became a scramble for fans trying to check out before sizes and items vanished.
The first batch launched last week at proudtubigay.com and was “snapped up within hours”. On 24 June, Tubi issued another drop of free merchandise and it “flew off the digital racks almost immediately”.
As the second release sold out, social media filled with posts from would-be buyers frustrated about missing out and wanting better notifications for future drops.
Why it took off online
Tubi is a free, ad-supported streaming platform available in multiple markets, including the UK, positioned as a broad catalogue service with a heavy emphasis on library titles. It is owned by Fox Corporation and is often discussed as part of Fox’s streaming strategy distinct from subscription services. Tubi has a reputation online for deep cuts, low-budget genre films and ‘so bad it’s good’ viewing, which has helped it become meme-able on social media.
The UK catalogue currently features a number of queer titles, including series like The Lesbian Homie and Wentworth, as well as iconic films like Bring It On and Donnie Darko.
Online, a few people on X raised an eyebrow at the streamer’s corporate ownership. One post described the Pride drop as “bizarre”, adding: “They’re owned by Fox which makes this even more bizarre”. Fox acquired Tubi in 2020, and Tubi and Fox News operate as separate, independent divisions under Fox Corporation.
