Heated Rivalry season 2 starts filming after major casting announcements

Heated Rivalry

Heated Rivalry season two has officially started filming, days after fans got some huge casting announcements.

The gay hockey drama, produced by Crave in Canada, has kicked off filming, treating fans to a sneak peek of the set, complete with a custom “HR” clapperboard.

The Instagram post on 17 August, from Heated Rivalry HQ, was simply captioned: “Day 1.”

Show creator Jacob Tierney was among those excited in the comments, writing: “Wheeeeee.” Crave, the show’s home channel, commented: “And it begins.”

And a number of the series cast members also got involved. Kaden Connors, who played Sasha, Ilya’s former lover, in season one said: “Yippee.” Fans questioned whether Connors would be appearing, though, as Sasha does not appear in The Long Game, the source book from Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novel series on which season two will be based.

But there were some other new faces in the comments, fresh off the back of their casting announcements.

Edvin Rydings, who is set to play young hockey player Luca Haas, commented: “LETSGOOOO.” While Robert Naylor, who will play Wyatt Hayes simply left a hear-eye emoji.

Who else has been cast in Heated Rivalry season two?

The past few weeks have been full of exciting casting news for Heated Rivalry fans.

First came the announcement that Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie had been cast as Harris Drover and Troy Barrett, respectively. Queer actor Smith will play the loveable social media manager who falls for controversial, misunderstood closeted hockey star Troy, played by Gillespie.

Then, late last week, five more names were confirmed, including Young Royals actor Ryding and Naylor, who voiced DW in kid’s classic cartoon Arthur.

Joining them were Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire, who will play Vanessa, and Canada’s Drag Race winner Priyanka, who will play Tarek. Vanessa and Tarek are minor characters in book three, Tough Guy, which focuses on the romance between burly gentle giant Ryan Price and androgynous musician Fabian Salah. Neither of those two characters have had casting announcements as of yet, though with Vanessa and Tarek set to appear in season two, it’s likely that news is imminent.

Black Mirror star Sabrina Jalees has been cast in the role of Farah Jalali, a sport agent who looks after both Shane and Ilya.
