A musical about Cher may just be about to happen

A Broadway show about Cher might be one step closer, as the first draft of a script goes to producers this week.

Rick Elice, a musical theatre veteran writer, announced on Thursday that he will present a version of the possible stageplay to Jeffrey Seller and Flody Suarez, who could potentially produce the production.

The idea for a musical on Cher’s life was discussed a few years ago, but little had been heard of it until now.

The New York Post also reports that a version of the script will be presented to Cher on her 70th birthday.

Talking of the script, Rick said: “They may pack me in a van and have me carted away when they see what I’ve done with her life.

“Or I’ll start doing what Arthur Laurents always said about musicals, ‘They don’t get written. They get rewritten’”.

Although he wasn’t willing to give away too many details, he said he was determined to avoid a standard biomusical. He admitted it could be difficult though.

Her “life is so wildly documented. There is not much we don’t know about her. I was not a fanatical Cher fan, but when I started working on this show, I was surprised at how much I knew,” he said.

The show will take the audience through the star’s life as as child, her marriage to Sonny Bono and then through her solo success. Three different actresses will play the three different parts.

It’s also reported that show, which is yet to be formally named, will feature hits such as, ‘I Got You Babe,’ ‘Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves,’ ‘Take Me Home,’ ‘Believe’ and ‘If I Could Turn Back Time’.
