Tom Holland just spilled all the tea about his legendary Lip Sync Battle performance: ‘I was like, f**k it’

Two images of Tom Holland: In the first, Tom is wearing a pink shirt sat on green seats clapping while watching the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. In the second image, Tom is perfoming his lip-sync battle. He's in a black corset, tight shorts and fishnets. He's also wearing a black cropped wig.

Spider-Man’s Tom Holland has reminisced on how that ICONIC lip-sync performance came to be and the fishnets were his idea – we love an unbothered by toxic masculinity king!

Holland revealed that he’d kept Zendaya, his Spider-Man co-star and now fiancée, in the dark about his plans. Which explains her truly gob-smacked reaction on the night.

The show Lip Sync Battle ended in 2019, but it probably should’ve stopped airing in 2017 after Holland’s legendary homage to Rihanna’s “Umbrella”, after all, who could top that?

Tom Holland and Zendaya appeared on the celebrity competition show, going head-to-head while miming along to a variety of different records. Zendaya performed her rendition of ’24k Magic’ by Bruno Mars, then Holland took to the stage.

The 29-year-old began his performance n a suit dancing to “Singin’ in the Rain” before transitioning into one of the most remembered moments of Holland’s career. To date, his dance routine has 166 million views.

Tom Holland does a quick change and emerges in a wig and fishnets, throwing his body and soul into a phenomenal, electrifying, no-holds-barred TV event. He served, in other words.

Appearing on Gordon Ramsay‘s talk show Scrambled recently, Holland opened up about his truly gag-worthy performance, which rivals even the finest work on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Thinking back to the show, he shared: “What was really great about that is people didn’t know that I could dance. I kept that quiet, I don’t know why. And I came out with a bang.

“It’s so funny, Zendaya and I, we were chatting at the time about what we were gonna do, and we had agreed that we would take it easy.

“That was the agreement, that it was like, ‘I’m not gonna do anything crazy, you’re not gonna do anything crazy. We’re just gonna keep it nice and easy breezy.’ Then, when I was talking with the creative team, they pitched this umbrella thing.

‘I want to wear fishnets and I want a wig’

“And as we started rehearsing, it got crazier and crazier, and then the rain machine came in. Then I was like f**k it, I want to wear fishnets and I want a wig and a quick change.”

Holland went on to note that his father, Dominic Holland, initially attempted to advise him against going ahead with the dramatics.

“When I told my dad, he was like, “Son, I don’t think that’s a good idea. I don’t think you should do that.” I think he was just, at that time in my career, he was very worried about me becoming too famous too quickly.

Gordon Ramsey asked if the fishnets were his mother’s. Holland laughed, saying they were actually his grandmother’s.

He continued that the ‘Umbrella’ showcase remains a pivotal moment in his career.

“Honestly, of all the pieces of work I’ve done, that I’ve put my heart and soul into, blood, sweat, and tears, the lip sync is the thing that everyone brings up. It’s never Spider-Man, it’s never any of my other movies, it’s always Lip Sync Battle. It haunts me.

Here’s the full lip-sync performance for your viewing pleasure. Make sure to watch it once a week, doctor’s orders:
