Cher isn’t fazed by 40-year age gap with boyfriend: ‘We just get each other’

Cher has spilt the tea about her boyfriend and music producer, Alexander ‘A.E’ Edwards, and how their relationship transcends a 40-year age gap.
The “Goddess of Pop”, 77, is thriving as she gears up to drop her first ever festive album, appropriately titled Christmas, with the recent release of lead single “DJ Play a Christmas Song”.
The “Believe” singer recently made headlines for addressing her decades-long alleged feud with Madonna, claiming they quashed their beef “a long time ago”, and now she is turning her attention to the things that really matter – like her boyfriend, 37-year-old Alexander Edwards.
The coulple publicly announced their relationship on social media to surprised fans in November 2022, after crossing paths at Paris Fashion Week earlier that year.
In an interview with Extra, Cher opened up about her love for Edwards and how the pair perfectly complement one another.
“I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we have a great time together,” she shared. “We can talk music. We can talk about everything. He’s a got a great sense of humour, he’s got the cutest son in the world, ever… We just get each other.”
Noting that Edwards comes across as “obviously more shy” and “reserved”, Cher admitted that occasionally the pair’s age gap is felt.
“Sometimes I’m talking to him and he has no idea who I’m talking about… The other day, I said, ‘Do you know who, I don’t know, Clark Gable, [is]?’ Somebody said, ‘Yes, of course,’ but most of my references… He’ll look at me and go, ‘I wasn’t born yet.'”

Alexander ‘A.E.’ Edwards is a music executive who served as Vice President of the Artists and Repertoire (A&R) for Def Jam Record as late as 2020. Edwards has also worked closely as a producer with major artists such as hip-hop icon Tyga and his independent record label Last Kings Records.
Fully immersed within the elite of the Hollywood music industry, it’s not the first time Edwards has come under the spotlight for a high-profile relationship. He was also in a three-year relationship with model and rapper Amber Rose, which ended acrimoniously in August 2021.
The pair share a son together, Slash Electric Alexander Edwards. At the time of their break up, Rose took to her Instagram to allege that Edwards was unfaithful over the course of their relationship.
The age gap between Cher and her partner is 40 years – but it’s not holding them back
Over the past year Cher has tentatively opened up about her relationship with Edwards and regularly shared photos celebrating their loved-up relationship on social media.
In December 2022, Cher appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show where she raved about her new boyfriend. “On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous,” Cher said. “But in real life, we get along great. He’s fabulous. And I don’t give men qualities that they don’t deserve.
“He’s very kind, very smart, he’s very talented, and he’s really funny,” she said. “And I think he’s quite handsome.
“Maybe younger men don’t care if you’re funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things, and you have the strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, okay?”
Although there were rumours that the couple were on the rocks in May 2023, Cher’s latest comments prove they are still firmly together as they continue to defy the doubters’ expectations.
