This ‘transphobic’ meme has got a garlic bread fan page into trouble
A meme posted to a garlic bread Facebook fan page has caused a controversy.
The meme, posted to the Garlic Bread Memes page, which has almost 250,000 followers, has caused rifts within the garlic bread appreciating community.
While the page normally posts non-offensive pictures and memes, such as the below, a new post about gender proved too much for some fans.
Most of the posts by the page appeared unoffensive.
The majority simply showed appreciation for garlic bread.
And some played on other viral news stories, such as the sad tale of a grandad who made burgers *ahem* garlic bread, for his grandchildren.
But the post about gender caused many to complain that they would no longer follow the page.
Speaking to BuzzFeed, the 18-year-old behind the page, said: “I posted it because I find it funny. The meme is not transphobic, in my opinion at least. I honestly think that there are two genders. Trans people are not a gender – they are people that move from gender A to gender B.”
But many questioned the motive behind the post. Some took to the page itself, while others went to Twitter.
Others defended the page, with one trans man saying he found it funny.
But this lady asked the question on all of our lips… “why are garlic bread memes a thing?”
