David Coburn’s opinion is ‘worthless’, EU chief says
The opinions of UKIP MEP David Coburn have been branded “worthless” by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker.
Mr Coburn is UKIP’s most senior openly gay figure, as its leader in Scotland and a Member of the European Parliament – but is also known for his outspoken comments.
However, his constant heckling in the European Parliament did not go down well this week in the European Parliament, when he attempted to shout down President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker during a ‘state of the union’ address.
When Mr Coburn interrupted, he responded: “I don’t know why you are becoming nervous when we are speaking about the European Union.
“You can interrupt me from time to time.
“I will not at each time respond to what you are saying because what you are saying is worthless.”
Mr Coburn is no stranger to making controversial comments – facing calls to resign earlier this year after comparing SNP minister Humza Yousaf to convicted terrorist Abu Hamza.
He also previously branded Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson a “fat lesbian” and compared then-SNP leader Alex Salmond to dictator Robert Mugabe.
Despite being gay, the UKIP MEP is a fierce critic of the gay rights movement, regularly claiming that same-sex marriage supporters are “equality Nazis” – and that the Lib Dems and Labour want to ban him from having sex.
Following controversy over UKIP’s participation in this year’s Pride in London parade, Mr Coburn insisted that “the Gay Rights Movement in UK [has] died” because “controlling authoritarians are equality Nazis”.
