Murdoch backs Republican who thinks gay marriage is a ‘Marxist plot’
Media magnate Rupert Murdoch has tweeted his support for a Presidential hopeful who compared same-sex couples to conjoined twins – and claimed equality is a Marxist plot.
The influential News Corp CEO tweeted his support for neurosurgeon-turned-politician Dr Ben Carson, who is one of the 15 candidates vying for the Republican Presidential nomination.
Murdoch – who owns Fox News, where Dr Carson previously worked as a commentator – wrote: “Ben and [wife] Candy Carson terrific. What about a real black President who can properly address the racial divide? And much else.”
However, his comments follow a string of anti-LGBT comments from Dr Carson.
The candidate last year insisted that same-sex marriage is a Marxist plot from the New World Order, claiming in a speech to a listed anti-gay group last year that gay weddings are part of a plan “to destroy unity [and] bring America down.”
Dr Carson has repeatedly been forced to apologise for homophobic comments – apologising after he was caught comparing gay people to paedophiles, and also apologising after he was caught claiming that prisons ‘prove’ being gay is a choice.
His repeated humiliations have not dissuaded him, however – just this week he compared gay couples to conjoined twins.
In his new book ‘A More Perfect Union’ Dr Carson wrote: “Laws and regulations should be designed to address normal situations while providing special mechanisms for the creation of exceptions in abnormal situations.
“Changing the law governing the normal situation in order to accommodate the abnormal situation is like requiring that car seats be designed to accommodate conjoined twins as well as anatomically normal children.
He continued: “Most people are heterosexual, and changing the definition of marriage to suit those outside that definition is unnecessarily complicated.”
