As Utah rejects sex education bill, adult site reroutes all traffic to something special
As legislators in Utah voted down a bill which would have put comprehensive sex education in all schools, a porn site had a great solution.
Noting that Utah is the biggest state in terms of porn consumption, XHamster rerouted traffic from all users in Utah to its PG-13 sex education video programme.
The site gave all users in the state a pop-up offering the SFW sex education videos.
The sex education bill, HB215, would have required the state to provide abstinence-based, as well as comprehensive sex education.
This would have allowed parents to choose a program to help their child, or would have allowed an opt-out.
But the bill never made it past committee stage in Utah.
Sex education instructors are currently banned from advocating the use of contraceptives, premarital sex or homosexuality.
A statement from XHamster reads: “We’ve come up with a solution that we will hopefully satisfy them on both fronts. Beginning immediately, we’re rerouting all xHamster traffic from Utah to our comprehensive sex ed series, The Box.
“We’ve been working on The Box since last year, producing videos based on questions submitted by porn viewers.”
The site notes that Utah back in 2016 declared that pornography is a “public health hazard”.
Fellow porn site Pornhub earlier this week launched a centre dedicated to educating people about sexuality and sexual health – because of poor standards of sex and relationship education (SRE).
The website has hired clinical psychologist Dr Laurie Betito to run the new Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center, which will provide readers “with information and advice regarding sexuality, sexual health and relationships”.
It explains: “The free site will feature original editorial content on an assortment of topics from an array of esteemed doctors, therapists, community leaders and experts.”
Unlike many sex ed resources online, all the contributors to the site are qualified medical experts.
The site already has content on a number of topics including consent, transgender terminology and HIV/AIDS.
