‘RuPaul’s Drag Race meets Powerpuff Girls’ in first trailer for Netflix animated series Super Drags

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for upcoming animated series Super Drags and it’s full of raunchy, red-band awesomeness!

Immediately setting the tone for the adult animated series, the video opened by saying, “The following preview contains strong language, adult content and maximum fabulousness.”

It goes on to claim that viewer discretion is advised, while also promising those who do watch the teaser that their “eyeballs are about to get slayed!”

Created by Anderson Mahanski, Fernando Mendonça and Paulo Lescaut and consisting of five episodes, it follows Patrick, Donizete and Ralph as they juggle their time between working their department store jobs in the day and protecting their community at night.

As you might have guessed from the show’s title, their alter-egos, Lemon Chifon, Scarlet Crimson and Cyan Sapphire, are drag queens and each possess their own unique superpowers.

Lemon is usually the brains when it comes to their crime-fighting operations, Scarlet is the brawn and Cyan is the heart.

Their abilities will be put to the test, however, when they’re tasked with taking down one of their most formidable foes yet, whose plan is to “suck every last bit of highlights from queers” everywhere.

Upon its release, onlookers took to YouTube to share their thoughts on the trailer with many joking that it looked like a cross between Cartoon Network outing The Powerpuff Girls and reality TV competition RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Perhaps in this instance, the titular heroes aren’t just made of ‘sugar, spice and everything nice’ but hip pads, pussycat wigs and Anastasia Beverly Hills cosmetics too, eh?

The original series featured the voice talents of Brazilian actors Sérgio Cantú and Guilherme Briggs, as well as drag queen Pabllo Vittar. The American version has been dubbed, with well-known names Trixie Mattel, Ginger Minj, Willam and Shangela rounding out the cast.

If the trailer is anything to go by, viewers should expect to see balls, weapons, lip-syncs, romance, divas, haters, lesbians and… watersports. That’s right, this show really has it all.

Adult-aimed animated content seems to be going from strength to strength over at Netflix recently. Just last month, the streaming platform released its fifth season of BoJack Horseman. Meanwhile, in early October, Big Mouth‘s second season was uploaded to the service.

Other hugely successful mature cartoon series include South ParkFamily Guy, Archer and Rick and Morty.

Super Drags is set to debut on Netflix on Friday 9 November.
