New Brighton gay newspaper unveiled
A new gay newspaper for Brighton and Hove is launching today.
The twice-monthly title one80news will offer news and information about events in the city as well as reviews and entertainment.
It is from the same team that produces the monthly 3SIXTY magazine
“We want to bolster our ability to report on Brighton and Hove stories in a much more localised way,” says managing editor David Harvey.
“3SIXTY is very much a regional title now covering the whole of the South of the UK and Wales and a local newspaper for Brighton will allow us to explore local issues and news in the city much more.”
The new editor will be Paul Disney who was the brains behind AXM magazine, formerly AXIOM, now owned by the Millivres Prowler Group.
“I’ve always thought that a city like Brighton and Hove should have an informative gay newspaper,” says Paul, who’s lived in the city for five years.
“There is such a big gay community here and it’s what the city needs as a newspaper will give more immediacy on news and information than monthly magazines.”
Official statistics show that one in five men in Brighton is gay.
The lesbian, bisexual and transgender community has yet to be officially measured but an acknowledged estimate of the LGBT community in total is 50,000.
The city is also a huge magnet for gay visitors.
“ONE80 will be a great addition to life on our vibrant city,” says Cllr Simon Burgess of Brighton and Hove City Council.
“It just shows how much is going on and how much people want to get involved in this great city of ours.”
The 3SIXTY team has just celebrated the 5th birthday of the magazine.
