Mississippi football player ‘looks down on gay football players’ including recently out Michael Sam

Support has been pouring in for recently out gay NFL hopeful Michael Sam since he revealed he is gay in an interview on Sunday.

Some did not take the news so well, however, as proven by Mississippi State University’s Rufus Warren, who posted a string of tweets including him saying that he “looks down” on gay football players.

He tweeted to say: “I don’t have a problem with gay people.. Be happy! But I look down on gay football players.. This is a MAN sport! And being gay is not a man.

“This sport is too violent for yu [sic] to go home to another man at night.. ”

He went on: “But big props to him.. Takes a lot to come out and say you like men.. Just don’t agree”.

The tweets were deleted, but were screengrabbed by Michael Bonner, The Clarion-Ledger’s reporter.

Warren later tweeted to apologise, saying: “My school does not need to reflect my thoughts.. I deeply apologize to my school and my followers for what I have said.”

His account has now been switched to protected.

Missouri All American and NFL draft hopeful Michael Sam came out as gay in interviews on Sunday.

He has also seen support since coming out from US First Lady Michelle Obama, who tweeted to say she was “proud” of his achievements both on and off the field.
