US: Republican politician claims standardised tests will make kids ‘become homosexual’

A politician in the US state of Florida has claimed that education standards set by the Obama administration will force children to “become as homosexual as they possibly can.”

Republican Representative Charles Van Zant made the comments at an event, saying the American Institutes for Research (AIR), brought in to implement the Common Core in Florida “will promote double-mindedness in state education and attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can.”

“I’m sorry to report that to you,” Zant said. “But you need to know.”

The AIR is a not-for-profit and nonpartisan group and the Common Core is the education standards developed by the Obama Administration.

Zant made the comments back in March at an event in opposition to the Core, but they have just surfaced online.

The Common Core has proven controversial for conservative Americans, and has even been dubbed “evil”, and compared the standards as similar to education policies in communist China.

The set of standards is not a nation-wide curriculum, but sets out a goal for each student to reach at each grade level.
