UKIP expels newly-elected councillor who said ‘poofs and dykes’ are ‘perverts’
A UKIP councillor has been expelled from the party less than a week after being elected, after it emerged he referred to gay people as poofs, dykes, and perverts.
Dave Small, who was elected to Redditch Borough Council’s Church Hill ward last Friday, made a series of homophobic and racist Facebook posts.
Small was suspended by UKIP yesterday for the comments, but a UKIP spokesperson today said: “He has now been expelled for clearly bringing the party into disrepute.”
Despite the expulsion, the councillor told the BBC he intended to continue as an independent, saying: “I shall never apologise to the poofs and perverts and certainly not the foreigners. The people of Redditch voted for me, I will stand my ground.”
Small wrote on Facebook: “Why on earth is this useless Goverment pandering to Puffs? I refuse to call them gays, as what has gay to do with Perverts like Elton John and Clair Balding [sic] who get their jollies in such disgusting ways. to sum up, they should not allowed to be married, they should go back to the closet.”
He also referred to gay people as “perverts” last February, and said that “poofs and dykes” should not be allowed to marry.
In other posts, he proclaimed “fuck the poofters”, defended his use of the racial slur “p**i”, and predicted the UK would be overwhelmed with “thousends mor scroungers” from Mali.
Redditch Borough Council said that as the alleged comments were believed to have been made before he became a councillor, it was not seen as a matter for the authority.
