Preview: RED HOT calendar tackles ‘desexualisation’ of gingers
Images from the newest RED HOT calendar have been released, which aims to dispel the “desexualisation” of gingers.
The popular calendar has just been made available for pre-order. A portion of proceeds are donated to good causes. and the calendar aims to inspire ginger men to be proud of their red hair.
“The collection aims to dispel the popular preconception that ginger men are somehow less attractive and weaker than their brunette or blonde counterparts,” says photographer Thomas Knight.
The photographs are being exhibited in the BOSI Contemporary gallery in New York
RED HOT helps support the Anti-Bullying Alliance, and last year’s calendar helped to raise more than £6,000 for various anti-bullying charities. The 2015 calendar aims to make even more for good causes.
Thomas continued: “It amazed me how our western culture holds redheaded women to such high regard, almost the ‘ultimate’ female, and redheaded males in such low esteem; emasculated and desexualised in film, TV and literature.
“I wanted to flip this stereotype on its head and present the redheaded male as the ‘ultimate’ alpha male. Essentially, ginger boys desperately needed a rebrand and I felt like I was in a good position to do it.”
