This gay Boris Johnson impersonator likes to throw glitter over hecklers
This is not a picture of Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
The Conservative Member of Parliament for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, member of David Cameron’s political cabinet, newspaper columnist, radio host, comedy show panellist, historian and Mayor of London often seems so busy he must be in two places at once – and now he can be.
Creative Consultant Drew Galdron is looking to make a living by impersonating the Mayor, whose buffoonish style has long been enjoyed by satirists everywhere.
Mr Galdron said: “You’d think resembling a politician famed for his eccentricity than his looks would make it difficult to get laid. But I’ve still got a few close friends hanging on!”
He added: “Sometimes the way certain guys act around me in public, I’m tempted to just hit on them, see if they start to freak out, and then just say, ‘Oh I’m sorry! Am I making you uncomfortable?’”
“So far my best response to a ‘Botter’ (Boris spotter) who was rude to me at Piccadilly Circus, was to throw glitter all over him. I keep a small container of the fuschia stuff in my bag.
“Comes in handy, when you want to give them a true baptism of stupid. But it’s still something I really enjoy playing with.”
Mr Galdron previously appeared as the Mayor in an advert for EE – and got a chance to show off his rapping skills.
The impersonator has come face-to-face with the Mayor himself, at a Pride reception in 2009.
He said: “As he was speaking to a women’s activist and blatantly remarking my resemblance, I leaned over and said, ‘I’m cheeky enough to tell my friends that I’m the Gay Boris, and they’re cheeky enough to say back, ‘there’s a straight Boris?”… the look on his face was priceless!”
He added: “I like Boris as a person, but I don’t like his politics. I’ve never voted Tory, and never will. Most Tories lack any real compassion, and David Cameron definitely does not care about this country’s disabled people.”
Mr Galdron is currently running a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to take his impersonation public – planning to spend the summer “offering photographs and flowers for free to any passers by”.
In a very Boris Johnson fashion, so far it’s raised £5.
