The NBA, NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference have all pulled out of games in North Carolina because of the discriminatory law.

The Southern Conference will holds events in men’s soccer, men’s golf and men and women’s basketball at different North Carolina sites during the 2016-2017 school year.

In a statement reported by the Associated Press, the presidents and chancellors of Southern Conference schools said they would follow their schedule as planned but “reaffirmed their resolute opposition to legislation that discriminates against any individual.”

HB2 was the first anti-LGBT legislation to be passed after the Supreme Court legalised same-sex marriage across all 50 states.

The bill, which requires trans people to use public bathrooms that match the gender on their birth certificate, also limits LGBT protections across the state.

The anti-LGBT bathroom bill has cost North Carolina a mind blowing $395 million because of the loss of jobs, trade and entertainment in the state.

The governor of the state, Pat McCrory, said his state would call a session to consider repealing the widely condemned bill, but only if the city of Charlotte repeals its own LGBT protections.

Charlotte snubbed the “compromise” plan and flatly rejected any such ‘deal’, signalling that LGBT rights are not up for negotiation or compromise

Governor McCrory is trailing in the re-election battle due to his anti-LGBT crusade.

McCrory, who has spent tens of thousands of tax dollars in legal fees for the bill recently withdrew a lawsuit against the federal government, defending HB2.
