75-year-old man stalked and attacked by Trump supporter: ‘We can kill faggots now’
A 75-year-old gay man has said he was followed home by a Trump supporter who physically attacked him because he is gay.
Chuck Redding of Sarasota, Florida, said the man followed him home and physically assaulted him.
He had dropped off a friend and says he thinks rainbow stickers on his car alerted the assailant to the fact that he is gay.
After pulling into his street he thought something was wrong so he parked in front of a neighbour’s house.
“This guy was extremely close to me. At first, I didn’t think anything of it other than it was a jerk that was following too close,” Redding told WFTS.
“And I knew then something was wrong,” Redding said.
He said next the other driver jumped out of the car and banged on his car window.
“He yanked the door open, dragged me out, ripped my shirt. I was on the pavement,” said Redding.
“He kept saying, ‘You know my new president says we can kill all you faggots now,'” he adds.
Redding has been left with a badly bruised arm and a hand which is cut and swollen to twice its normal size.
At 75, Redding says he has never been attacked for his sexual orientation.
He said he is tempted to carry a firearm to disuade others from attempting similar “horrendous” attacks.
“If I can carry a weapon in my waistband, so that it can be seen at least, maybe these people will think different,” said Redding.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the incident.
