Stonewall launches ‘Some People Are Trans’ t-shirt campaign
Leading gay rights charity Stonewall has in a new move launched a new campaign of t-shirts sporting the phrase: “Some People Are Trans, Get Over It!”.
The slogan, similar to that made famous by Stonewall: “Some People Are Gay, Get Over It!”, appears on the new design of the t-shirts, and comes as the charity consults on the possibility of lobbying on trans issues for the first time.
Stonewall in England and Wales historically has only campaigned on issues affecting lesbian, bisexual and gay people and so far has not specifically lobbied on trans issues.
The charity released the first 100 t-shirts for free, which sold out within seven minutes of going on sale. They go on general sale from next week.
Trans journalist Paris Lees posted a photo of herself wearing the t-shirt on Instagram.
Chief Executive Ruth Hunt in January said she would not rule out beginning a new dialogue with trans groups
A Stonewall spokesperson today told PinkNews: “Our consultation with trans communities is ongoing and we still want to hear from anyone who wants to share their views on how we can best help secure equality for trans people.”
To add your views to the consultation, call 08000 50 20 20 or go to the Stonewall website.
Stonewall in England and Wales does not currently campaign or lobby on transgender issues. Stonewall Scotland campaigns on transgender issues and its research is trans-inclusive.
